WE ARE THE OTHERS

A talk, next Saturday 18 July, by Antonio Loiacono, a guest at “Cascia Welcomes Peace” – a gathering of young people from various European countries who have accepted the invitation to meet in the town of Santa Rita to discuss possible models of active, informed and responsible citizenship in the pursuit of peace.
Among these is international solidarity.
‘The others are us’ is the theme to be explored by the representative of GSI Italia, who identifies the active involvement of young people and communities as the cornerstone of local and international civic engagement, fostering a willingness to listen – which creates awareness – and to cooperate – which builds supportive and engaged communities.
Three initiatives were highlighted for the young people as examples, accompanied by video screenings relating to the projects presented: ETIapiA, a development project in Ethiopia through beekeeping; the Health Campaign in Palestine, a project supporting healthcare in Gaza and East Jerusalem; and *HOW TO FEED THE PLANET* by Francesco de Augustinis, a film currently screening in cinemas, which includes GSI Italia’s development project in the province of South Ubangi, Congo.
‘Gli altri siamo noi’ thus exemplifies a shared and viable peace project for young global citizens – the builders of Europe – both in their home regions and across the world.
