TREVI SUPPORTS THE PALESTINIAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

The Health Campaign for Palestine continues to attract, day by day, new supporters and significant backing from across Italy. This is a broad and widespread movement which, over time, has become a focal point for over 700 Italian solidarity organisations, including national bodies and local networks that have been engaged in humanitarian aid for years.

Among the organisations forming part of this network are Aoi, Focsiv and Forum Sad, alongside numerous small pro-Palestine associations and local groups that continue to join the campaign. The collaboration also involves key institutions and bodies such as the Patriarchate and the Palestinian Red Crescent, enabling the coordinated management of aid and the targeted distribution of medical supplies.

Thanks to the constant commitment of volunteers and supporters, over thirty cubic metres of medical consumables have been collected, along with more than €100,000 worth of medicines, currently in storage and ready to be loaded onto containers bound for Palestinian healthcare facilities. This is a significant achievement, made possible by the tangible solidarity of citizens, associations and healthcare workers who have decided to actively contribute to the campaign.

Meanwhile, support groups continue to spring up in many towns and cities, organising themselves in different ways but united by the same goal: to offer practical help to the Palestinian people and to uphold the right to healthcare in the context of a health and humanitarian emergency.

An important awareness-raising event took place on Wednesday 22 April in Trevi, where the Health Campaign for Palestine was officially presented to the public. The initiative was attended by a large group of citizens who, for 40 consecutive weeks, have been organising a flash mob in the square every Wednesday to keep the spotlight on the situation in Palestine. The Municipal Council had already, at the press conference presenting the Campaign in the Umbria Region, committed to hosting Palestinian healthcare workers in Umbria free of charge for medical training.

The constant presence of Italian and foreign citizens, including some Israeli citizens, stands as a significant testament to participation and human solidarity with the tragedy experienced by the Palestinian people. Their involvement in these public acts of solidarity underscores the universal value of civic engagement and the defence of human rights.

The Health Campaign for Palestine therefore continues its work, supported by an ever-growing network of organisations and individuals, with the aim of turning solidarity into concrete and timely aid. It is hoped that new supporters will further strengthen this initiative, helping to ensure medical care and healthcare for those who need it most, in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
