GSI ITALIA IN THE CONGO: AS SEEN IN Francesco De Augustinis’ *How to Feed the Planet*

‘How to Feed the Planet’ (Come Nutrire il Pianeta), the latest documentary film by Francesco De Augustinis – a freelance journalist and director – was released in cinemas a few weeks ago. It is the fourth in a series exploring the theme of environmental and food sustainability. The film, which is highly engaging in both its narrative and visuals, tackles the issues of agricultural waste and hunger, the flip side of consumption, and the frequent destruction of the ecosystem that goes hand in hand with it. It takes as its example the South Ubangi region in northern Congo, where GSI Italia has been operating for three years. GSI Italia hosted the journalist, facilitating his exploration of the area and enabling him to understand the environmental disaster first-hand through the accounts of the beneficiaries of the ‘L’Unione fa per Tre’ project, funded to GSI Italia by the Italian Prime Minister’s Office.
