GSI ITALIA CONFERENCE IN ETHIOPIA ON REHABILITATION

On April 5, a conference promoted by the Association on rehabilitation issues happens in Addis Ababa, at the conclusion of a long program of activities that involved the University of Gondar and the two major hospitals in the capital during 2023 – 24. The event is held by the president of the NGO, accompanied by a team of 4 other Italian doctors, who have developed the activities in Italy and Ethiopia.

The conference is hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Addis Ababa with the participation of officials from the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and the WHO, as well as representatives from the two universities of Gondar and Addis Ababa, the Black Lion and St Paul Hospital. The greeting from the Italian Embassy is brought by Dr. Laura Pacifici Noja.

The conference aims to take stock of the state of the art in the field of rehabilitation in the country, outlining the state of the services that Ethiopia is able to provide to its citizens starting from the indications of the World Health Organization, to identify the spaces of useful and necessary cooperation that international organizations operating in the country can develop in support of the federal government’s policies.

The conference is part of the framework agreement signed by the Ethiopian Minister of Health with GSI Italia which concerns rehabilitation as well as the prevention and treatment of gynecological tumors and pediatric heart disease. A screening program in schools in the capital is being launched in the capital by our Association from the last quarter of 2024.
