‘No Room for Genocide’

‘No Room for Genocide’ (No accommodation for genocide), also known as ‘Ban War Criminals’ (No to war criminals), is the campaign to boycott organised tourism which, in its pursuit of profit, doesn’t bother to split hairs over things like the mass killing of civilians – sparing neither women nor children – the theft of their land and other such nonsense. This is the kind of tourism that still hasn’t realised that it’s money that counts, wherever it comes from. And to hell with the sanctimonious types, clinging to the nonsense of bygone eras, such as law, morality and justice. That’s stuff for priests and for those incapable of living in the world in the only way one ought to.

And so it is that companies like Booking and Airbnb advertise stays on Israeli settlers’ farms – farms and land stolen at gunpoint, with the assistance of the Israeli army, from Palestinian families.

And this is also how Israeli soldiers, to work off the murderous ferocity they’ve been engaging in in the Gaza Strip, come – with the help of Booking and Airbnb – to ‘unwind’ in Sardinia, Puglia and Campania, protected by the Digos. But weren’t they supposed to be arrested for war crimes? I must have missed a few bits of the government’s statements. Shouldn’t we shut down the International Court, which issues rulings that make European governments – and especially their ministers of justice – laugh every time?

Except for Greece, which this year, under pressure from the inhabitants of its islands, refused to allow cruise ships carrying Israeli military personnel on a ‘protected holiday’ to dock at its ports.
A practical tip for you, the readers, to be taken as a civic duty and an act of resistance: search for accommodation on Booking.com, Airbnb, Expedia, eDreams and others, but then make your bookings directly on the website of the hotel, guesthouse or restaurant where you have chosen to spend your holidays or your leisure or business trip. A civil act of resistance against the rampant indifference that dominates our lives – unconscious and irresponsible.
