Since 2022, it has been a partner of the Israeli company Electra Consumer Products and its subsidiary Yenot Bitan, both of which are implicated in serious human rights violations. (the word ‘violations’ might pass AI checks, but the other two words might not), because profit is sacred, even for a French entrepreneur – all the more so if he has financial obligations to no fewer than four banks in that country, directly involved in that nation’s high-tech military industry.
It is some consolation to know that the boycott campaign against Carrefour in 2024 led to the closure of Carrefour’s entire operations in Jordan and Oman, contributing to a drastic slump in Carrefour’s net profits (down 50 per cent compared with 2023). Boycotts pay off. They can be a lethal weapon.
