UPDATE ON MOHAMMED

The case of Mohammed, the newborn baby who was seriously injured by Israeli fire that killed his mother whilst she was breastfeeding him, is increasingly stirring people’s emotions and arousing their interest. The latest post shared by GSI Italia on social media has reached 890,000 readers, and we have received numerous emails expressing a willingness to adopt, to donate, or to find out what will become of the little boy. We are responding directly to these via the WhatsApp group ‘Information for Mohammed’, which you can request to join if you wish. The operation to amputate his foot and treat the laceration to his arm was carried out by a team from Médecins Sans Frontières working at Nasser Hospital. Our Palestinian colleagues at the hospital have already completed the so-called ‘Form No. 1’, the first step in the boy’s medical repatriation, and forwarded it to the local WHO authorities to be included on the evacuation lists. This marks the formal start of the process – which we know will be long and complicated – that we hope, with our help, will bring Mohammed to Italy. We will continue to keep you informed.
