Fair trade
“Another world is possible” states the slogan of pacifist and no-global people and justice is a key value for them.
Fair price, equity, fair economy, sustainable environment, rights and health, self-determination and richness of diversity, are the key words and the ideals which are shared by Fair Trade producers, promoters and customers. This type of trade might sound as a prophecy, an act of complaint, addressed to a careless society which is only interested in performing activities from which the unfairness of the current economy and trade derives. The fair trade is not going to subvert the system: this is not its goal and it does not have the means to do that; however, if we are determined and patient, we can really contaminate the society, and creep into consumers’ concepts such as awareness and responsibility.
We strongly believe that Fair Trade is a first step towards a new world. More and more young people, institutions, companies, citizens, in Italy as well as in the rest of Europe, have taken the challenge to be modern prophets and “hope” developers. The truth is that we live in an unfair world, where economy is the new theology, environment is put repeatedly at risk, the production of goods and services are an end in itself and do not serve as tools for improving the human conditions. We live in a careless and worried society, trying to preserve few people’s privileges at the expense of all the others, who were born in the wrong side of the world.
The Fair Trade in this world of globalisation represents a prophecy, a way to say no to a system without soul and social responsibility, but it also serves as a bet giving hope for the future of our world.
